Course Description

The Maintenance Foundations Bootcamp is a hands-on preparation program for the SACA Gold certification. This registration covers Modules 1–2, the required foundation of the bootcamp: six sessions combining Industry 4.0 Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) training with an introductory tour of pneumatic, mechanical, and hydraulic systems. Instruction is delivered through a mix of classroom/lab work, structured on-the-job training, and short eLearning modules, using Festo TP-Series trainers for hands-on practice. Completion of Modules 1–2 prepares participants to select their elective track (Pneumatics, Mechanical Power, or Hydraulics) in a later phase of the bootcamp.

Course Learning Outcomes

Module 1 — Industry 4.0 TPM

By the end of Module 1, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the core elements of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and apply them on the job
  • Calculate and optimize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
  • Distinguish planned, unplanned, preventive, and predictive maintenance and perform related operations
  • Use cloud-based maintenance notifications
  • Apply systematic troubleshooting methods — including 5 Whys — to locate root cause and isolate malfunctions to the correct subsystem
  • Interpret maintenance work orders and accurately record information in maintenance documentation
  • Clean machines, identify contamination sources, and record preventive maintenance (PM) information

Module 2 — Systems Introduction

By the end of Module 2, participants will be able to:

  • Apply safety procedures and identify/correct hazards across mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
  • Isolate stored mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic energy, and describe correct PPE for each
  • Read basic mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics using standard NFPA/ISO symbols
  • Identify common mechanical power transmission types and their applications
  • Safely start up and shut down pneumatic and hydraulic power units
  • Connect and operate basic pneumatic and hydraulic components and circuits

Course Schedule

Six sessions, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:00 AM–2:00 PM.

  • Module 1 (Industry 4.0 TPM) meets August 18, 20, and September 1, 3.
  • Module 2 (Systems Introduction) meets September 8 and 10.

All sessions are in person, and attendance at all six is required to complete Modules 1–2.

Eligibility

This course is intended for entry- to mid-level maintenance technicians seeking an industry-recognized credential (SACA Gold). Ideal participants have:

  • Hands-on experience with maintenance systems, manufacturing equipment, or industrial operations
  • Some familiarity with TPM, preventive/predictive maintenance, or lubrication practices
  • Comfort learning technical content in a classroom/lab setting

To enroll in this course, you must be nominated by your manager.
